Tranzit wins award for e-buses
Tranzit Coachlines Manawatu won the Distribution and Logistics Category Award at the Manawatu Business Awards at the Awapuni Functions Centre in Palmerston North.
The New Zealand family-owned business introduced Australasia’s first 100% electric public transport bus fleet into Palmerston North and Ashhurst earlier this year in partnership with Horizons Regional Council.
Tranzit was also highly commended in the Environmental and Sustainability Category.
Tranzit’s coaching, intercity and tourism general manager Jenna Snelgrove acknowledged her more than 100 team of drivers, operations support staff and workshop members who helped introduce the 100% electric bus fleet.
“Not only did we design, build and introduce 42 new electric buses into service on the new and improved, high frequency bus network as well as invest and install 1MW of charging infrastructure to support that, but our team has delivered an outstanding quality of service,” she says.
Snelgrove was joined on stage by Tranzit Coachlines Manawatu manager Tony Chettleburgh, urban operations manager Mitchell Corbett and Tranzit Group’s project manager James Howard.
The award comes weeks after Tranzit won the Sustainable Journeys Award in the 2024 Australasian Fleet Champions Awards also in recognition of introducing Australasia’s first 100% electric public transport fleet into Palmerston North and for demonstrating an alternative way to meet public transport decarbonisation targets by converting two diesel buses to 100% electric.
