Video: Atlis electric ute revealed
The Atlis Motor Vehicle company is putting out an XT electric ute, but only in the US at this stage.
While the company won’t disclose battery pack details it says the ute has a choice of 480km, 640km and 800km range.
The Atlis XT can tow up to 15.87 tonnes and the payload is listed at up to 2.26 tonnes, depending on configurations.
The 4WD can carry up to six people and offers a variety of options in trays and canopies.
It has 30cm ground clearance and a special “off-road” version for more extreme use has 38cm ground clearance.
Atlis is considering its own charging stations or working in a partnership to establish them, saying the XT can recharge within 15 minutes but that stations need to be designed so that charging can be achieved even when towing.
Its top speed is 193km/h and it can get to 96.5km/h in about five seconds.
The company doesn’t say when the ute will be available but indicates it will be soon.
Atlis says it considered other power forms such as hydrogen.
“We believe the idea of hydrogen powered vehicles will be considered obsolete within the next five to 10 years.”

Interesting comment about Hydrogen, coming in the same week as a report by NZ’s Z Energy comes to the same conclusion. Making Hydrogen uses up a fair whack of the electricity that could otherwise provide propulsion. Plus…not so easy to store, distribute and filling stations could be very dangerous; one experimental station has already blown up.
