Kiwi brothers Mitch and Simon Evans discuss getting back to racing electric cars after COVID-19 restrictions end in Jaguar Racing’s fourth episode of RE:CHARGE @ Home video podcast series.

Hosted by Vernon Kay, ABB FIA Formula E Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver Mitch talks with his older brother and Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy driver Simon about their family’s commitment to racing, including their father Owen’s influence on their racing careers.

The brothers are missing track racing which has been suspended, possibly until June, because of the pandemic.

Mitch is involved in online racing under the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge but says there’s nothing like the real thing.

“I’m missing the Jaguar I-Type 4 so much,” he says.

“Being mid-way through the season and with our current on-track form, you want to keep the momentum going but regardless of the track action, the whole experience of travelling with the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is so special to be a part of and the lockdown period has highlighted that even more.

“To travel to different cities and experience different cultures with your team, up against other world-class drivers, it really is something special.

“We’re not alone in missing our sport though – other fields are, of course, doing the same to stay safe – but I can’t wait to get back racing when it is right to do so.”

Simon talks about his work with Giltrap Group’s Archibald and Shorter Auckland dealership and also the eTrophy event.

“Jaguar recognised early on that the I-Pace was a very good product,” he says.

“Electrification is such new technology, for every manufacturer, so for Jaguar to make a big statement by announcing its first road car and then launching a racing series that travels around the world is just brilliant.”

Simon says the series shows where Jaguar is going with the technology.
