Tesla has begun delivering Model Y vehicles from its Berlin factory, with chief executive Elon Musk presenting the first ones and even doing a little jig at the ceremony.

These are the first Tesla EVs produced in Europe and the German factory is expected to help free up up Tesla production in the US and China for other markets like New Zealand and Australia.

Musk thanked all involved in making the Berlin factory happen and reassured guests Tesla will “do the right thing” with the factory, Electrek reports.

“Tesla will make sure that this is a gemstone for the area, for Germany, and for the world.”

Musk repeated his vision that EVs, solar, and wind power, along with batteries for energy storage, can solve climate change and that Gigafactory Berlin is a “big step” toward achieving that.

Gigafactory Berlin is expected to reach 500,000 vehicles annually once its first phase is at full capacity.

Tesla is planning battery cell production at Gigafactory Berlin, especially its new 4680 cells, although the Model Ys produced there currently have 2170 cells.
