Volkswagen’s commitment to being a carbon-neutral business by 2050 and launching one of the world’s most aggressive roll-outs of electric vehicles, has catapulted it into Time magazine’s inaugural 100 Most Influential Companies list.

To assemble the list, Time solicited nominations from sectors ranging from health care and entertainment to transportation and technology, from its editors and global correspondents, as well as from industry experts.

Time editors evaluated each nominstion on key factors, including relevance, impact, innovation, leadership and success.

“I’m honoured that Time chose to recognise the work thousands of Volkswagen employees around the world are doing to lead our industry and address global warming,” says Volkswagen Group of America chief executive Scott Keogh.

“The launch of the electric ID.4 SUV has shown that Americans are ready to embrace electric driving with exciting, innovative vehicles priced right for the market. We want to make the electric future a reality now.”

Last month’s launch of the ID.4 began VW’s transition to an all-electric portfolio in America, and the goal of selling its last petrol-powered vehicles by the end of the next decade.
