X1 xDrive25e BMW PHEV due Q3
BMW New Zealand will expand its electrified vehicle offering with the launch of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) X1 xDrive25e in Q3 this year.
It says the X1 PHEV is priced at $86,900 and joins the battery electric vehicle (BEV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) models here.
The PHEV powertrain can do up to 89km electric range (WLTP), says BMW New Zealand, adding customer deliveries start in Q3.
The news comes just as the Government announced a lower PHEV road user charge rate.
With the addition of the X1 xDrive25e, BMW New Zealand will offer seven PHEV models alongside 12 fully electric variants.
The PHEV is rated at 180kW power, with the rear electric motor providing an additional 40kW for sprints or overtaking manoeuvres.
BMW New Zealand say the 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo engine is mounted on the front axle, with all four wheels driven via a hybrid-specific all-wheel-drive system.

“The fifth generation eDrive technology of the X1 xDrive25e includes lithium-ion high voltage batteries, arranged flat in the vehicle floor, with a usable energy content of 14.2kWh,” the company says.
“At the standard rate of 7.4kWh, the high voltage battery can be replenished from zero to 100% charge in less than two-and-a-half hours.”
BMW New Zealand says the X1 xDrive25e’s fuel tank capacity of has increased to 47 litres, and that the PHEV’s specification mirrors the X1 sDrive18i with extensive luxury and technology elements.
Customers can also option a trailer tow hitch that offers towing capacity of up to 1700kg.
The new PHEV has a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, 18-inch alloy wheels, DAB digital radio, a navigation system with augmented reality technology, reversing camera, sport leather steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, xLine styling including roof rails, two-zone automatic climate control, adaptive LED headlights, automatic tailgate, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Live Cockpit Professional with 10.7-inch and 10.25-inch BMW Curved Display, “Comfort Access”, Connected Package Professional, BMW Head-Up Display, instrument panel in Sensatec, M headliner in Anthracite, mirror package including anti-dazzle function, remote software updates, Driving Assistant Plus with Active Cruise Control including Stop&Go and Blind Spot Monitor, Parking Assistant Plus with surround view camera, Reversing Assistant and Drive Recorder, plus sports seats trimmed in ‘Veganza’ upholstery.
Owners can enhance their X1 xDrive25e with a $6500 Innovations Package (including alarm system, panorama sunroof, Harmon/Kardon hi-fi, front seat and steering wheel heating) and $2500 M Sport Packag featuring 18-inch M Sport alloy wheels, adaptive M Suspension, M Aluminium Hexacube dark interior trim, M leather steering wheel, M high gloss Shadow Line, and M high gloss roof rails.
A wide array of paint finishes is available for the X1 xDrive25e.
