“Xray” EV on show

A cut-away Nissan Leaf dubbed “Xray” is sure to be a show-stopper at the inaugural EVworld South expo on November 23 and 24.
EV City owner David Boot wanted to reveal the inner workings of an electric vehicle to people attending the event at the Wigram Airforce Museum in Christchurch.
He says it’s an opportunity for people to learn about what makes an EV “tick” and “what makes the technology so reliable and enjoyable”.
So how was the cut-away EV prepared for the Canterbury EV specialist’s show stand?
EV City co-owner and Boot’s dad Ran “achieved what manufacturers spend millions doing in just a couple of weeks with an angle grinder”, his son explains.
“The real trick to Xray is that you can still drive it, which was important to the owners as they plan to offer it to schools and community groups as an educational tool.”
While it’s not road legal, Xray can be easily moved for display purposes.
It will be on show at EV City after the expo and may even appear in a local Christmas parade.
