Zilch cars for essential services

Zero emission car sharing service Zilch (formerly Yoogo Share) says its cars will only be available to essential services and businesses during the Covid-19 level four lockdown, to undertake their essential travel tasks.

Other car share businesses with EVs such as Mevo, Mercury’s Drive subscription service, Cityhop, and more are expected to follow similar procedures.

Zilch cars are unavailable to book for private members, or business members, unless verified as an essential service, it says, adding anyone so qualified should contact the service to have booking restrictions lifted.

“If you know of an organisation undertaking essential services that needs to drive Zilch cars, please have them get in touch to set up a Zilch account.”

The restrictions have been implemented by the Ministry of Transport, following the strict measures put into place by the New Zealand government and the Ministry of Health to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Zilch says it’s also protecting essential service workers through tightening cleaning protocols.

“Inside the cars, we’ve installed cleaning kits for drivers to undertake their own cleaning procedures at the start and end of bookings.”

The company urges people not to break the lockdown rules to ensure a speedier return to normality.

Zilch shares some light-hearted items, such as breadmaker sales increasing by 900%, the environment receiving welcome relief from carbon emissions, supermarket workers receiving well-deserved credit for the important role they play and that thousands of kiwis are enjoying working from home in their pyjamas.
