Hyundai partners with Forze Hydrogen Racing
Hyundai is partnering with Forze Hydrogen Racing, a student team that runs hydrogen electric racing cars to promote fuel cell mobility.
The team will be able to consult with Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre (HMETC) Germany experts with both partners extending the boundaries of fuel cell (FCEV) racing.
Forze will complete the first iteration of Forze IX this year and in 2022 will finish the car which is expected to be the world’s fastest FCEV racing car and a profound breakthrough in sustainable racing.
The Forze IX will have a 300km/h top speed and accelerate to 100 km/h in less than three seconds. Weighing 1500kg, the Forze IX will carry two fuel cell systems with a total combined output of 240kW, and an accumulator with a maximum boost power of 600kW, along with all-wheel drive.
“Forze is an exciting team made up of some of the brightest young minds, and with a proven pedigree of bringing fuel cell mobility to the race track,” HMETC vehicle development head Tyrone Johnson says.
“By drawing on our leadership in fuel cell mobility and Forze’s ambition to take hydrogen to the next level, together we will push the boundaries of what’s possible in the development of zero-emissions racing.”
The Forze Motorsport team comprises more than 60 students from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. They work a year full or part-time to gain experience in the Forze team and particularly in the field of hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The company’s second-generation mass produced FCEV the Nexo will launch in Australia this month.
