Chevrolet Silverado electric ute planned

Chevrolet will build a Silverado electric ute (pickup truck) at General Motors’ Factory Zero assembly plant in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan, where the recently revealed 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV will also be produced.

That’s been confirmed by GM president Mark Reuss, the company planning to deliver more than a million EVs globally by 2025 and earn EV market leadership in North America.

The electric Silverado is expected to have 643km range with retail and fleet versions offering customers a variety of options.

Its Ultium Platform along with virtual development tools and technology have helped GM nearly halve vehicle development times to 26 months.

“The vehicles coming from Factory Zero will change the world, and how the world views electric vehicles,” Reuss says. “The GMC Hummer EV SUV joins its stablemate in the realm of true supertrucks, and Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado — and more — and put it into an electric pickup that will delight retail and commercial customers alike.”

The Cruise Origin, an all-electric and shared self-driving vehicle will also be built at Factory Zero. Production of the GMC Hummer EV ute is due to start later this year.
