Uber launches shared rides scheme

Uber has launched a new shared rides trial called Pool Chance exclusively in Auckland and Adelaide.
It enables Uber riders to save between 10%-25% on their fares (or more if others join in) when they choose to share a trip with someone heading in the same direction.
If Uber can’t match them with someone they will just pay the standard UberX fare instead.
Pool Chance is a step towards reducing congestion and lowering emissions by encouraging more people to travel together in fewer vehicles, Uber says.
To celebrate the launch, Uber is offering discounts until May 20, guaranteeing that every person who gives Pool Chance a go will save 25% off their fare even if they’re not paired with another rider.
“If they are paired, they’ll also save the regular Pool Chance savings of at least another 10% on top.”
Uber says if the trial is successful it will bring Pool Chance to more cities globally.
