Good EV turnout in bad weather
Nearly 17 EVs and about 25 people attended a West Auckland EV gathering organised by the Better NZ Trust.
It was a good turnout considering the weather was bad, so much so that people at the outside EV gather adjourned to a nearby café, trust chair Kathryn Trounson says.
She says several attendees will be on the “October Roadie” – “Leading the Charge” EV trips around the North Island and another around the South Island starting early October.
It will coincide with International Drive Electric Week and the school holidays, designed just to enjoy the country and experiences as a group of EV owners.
The North Island trip is proposed as a single route but in three loops, with Trounson handling the North Island sections.
These include Auckland, Dargaville, Kerikeri, Whangarei and back to Auckland (October 2-5); Auckland to Taupo, Napier and back to Taupo (October 6-10) and Taupo to Napier followed by an anti-clockwise swing around East Cape to Whakatane and Tauranga (October 10-12).
The South Island tour handled by Martin Kane covers Dunedin, Invercargill, Te Anau, Glenorchy, Wanaka, Cromwell, Naseby and back to Dunedin (October 3-9).
These trips are designed as ‘holidays’ with no fixed events organised yet, are meant to be fun, and include as many travellers as possible, the trust says.
