Electric added to vehicle register

The national Motor Vehicle Register has been updated to reflect the range of new drivetrains now in vehicles being sold in New Zealand.

The addition of electric and a range of hybrid options take the list of engines that a car can be registered under from six to 16.

The new definitions will become active on July 1.

The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association sent a guidance to its members noting the importance of correctly entering vehicles in the register.

“It is important for dealers to understand the new definitions, and be able to guide customers as required.”
