Electric vehicle events coming up
After the big evworld event at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau from September 8-9 there are plenty more to keep EV owners and fans occupied.
It will launch International Drive Electric Week from September 9-17, which has a huge line-up of events.
Palmerston North alone has a display and ride/drive in the Square on September 9 and 16, noon-3pm, then an EVs on Campus at Massey University on September 13, noon-2pm followed at 7pm by A Climate Change Candidates Forum at All Saints Hall.
Dunedin’s having another go at setting a record for the number of EVs in one place at the same time. This was the EV roadshow at the Octagon in April.
An EV Revolution talk by EV owner Professor Robert McLachlan on September 14, 5pm-7pm is at Caccia Birch, with EVs displayed outside, and McLachlan’s back for another talk and presentation on September 17, 2pm-4pm, with Dr Surinder Saggar and Dr Kevin Tate (Landcare) at the same venue.
In Wellington, EV owners have a coffee/brunch meet and greet on September 10.
Waikato’s main International Drive Electric Week event will have 15 school teams racing self-built electric race karts on September 15 and 16. Hosted by EVolicity and WECA, the 2017 Waikato Regional Finals will see entrants compete for a spot at the national finals in Christchurch later this year.
Otago EV owners are invited to help set a New Zealand record for the largest number of plug-in cars in the same place at the same time, currently held by Christchurch with 103. Organisers hope to have more than 200 EVs at the harbourside car park at Forsyth Barr Stadium on September 10, 11am, as part of Dunedin’s Great Big EV Day Out gala.
Even after the week is over there’s a lot happening with EVs nationally.
An “Amazing Race for Hospice” featuring EVS is on November 4 at Smales Farm in Takapuna from 9am-4pm, raising funds for Hospice North Shore.
People with electric cars are needed to help with The Front Up for Hospice challenge featuring 20 teams of two people each, partnered with Harcourts Cooper.
The race route is split in two with teams staggered, the trail linking North Shore hospice shops.
Secret activities to challenge people are also planned.
Wellington hosts the Go Green Expo featuring EVs and e-bikes on November 11 and 12, from 10am to 5pm.
It’s hailed as New Zealand’s largest sustainable lifestyle show, with more than 10,000 visitors expected at the TSB Arena, Queens Wharf.
People can see, ride and drive an electric car, also checking out a huge array of stands and displays featuring companies, brands and services.
Similar shows are planned in Auckland on April 7-8 and Christchurch on August 11-12, 2018.
