Maserati moving to electrification

From 2019, all new Maserati cars will have an electric and/or hybrid version of each model in the range.

That’s the message from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) chief executive officer Sergio Marchionne.

This move is similar to Volvo’s, which last month said it would also be pushing towards electrified travel from the same year, the Express reports.

Marchionne reckons more than half of the cars in their range will use some form of electric power by 2022.

FCA’s brands including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Fiat and Dodge are all expected to benefit from electrification eventually.

Maserati says its first electrified model will arrive in 2020, based on the Alfieri concept revealed in 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Specifications have yet to be confirmed for the two-seater sports car.

Meanwhile, Maserati is likely to add a plug-in hybrid version to present lines, including the Levante SUV.
