New Nissan Leaf “details” emerging

Official details have yet to come out about the all-electric 2018 Nissan Leaf, due for its world unveiling on September 5, but speculation is already rife.

Vehicle buying researcher Autobytel.com has released some unofficial specifications and pricing which other media are reporting too.

A few of the interesting speculation details include that the new Leaf may have a 110kW engine, a 40kWh battery, front-wheel drive, one speed automatic transmission, develop 147 horse power at 3283 rpm, have an engine torque of around 236 pounds per foot (about 319 Newton metres), is 4481mm long by 1791mm wide, have an interior cargo volume of around 668 litres, weigh 2020kg (gross) and have a 5.3 metre turning radius.

Prices are put at US$29,990 (S trim), US$32,490 (SV) and US$36,200 (SL) by Autobytel.com.

Pushevs.com says the Leaf is bigger and heavier than the 2017 version but is more efficient through improved aerodynamics and its powertrain.

It says that what’s unknown is whether a bigger LG Chem battery option will be available for higher trim versions and how much capacity it will have.

The 2018 Nissan Leaf is described by some as more a facelift than a new generation, probably making increased production easier.

Whether all this is confirmed by Nissan remains to be seen.

And there’s uncertainty about when the new Leaf might be available in New Zealand.
