Smart driverless EV concept at Frankfurt motor show

A fully autonomous electric Smart concept car is expected to be revealed at the IAA Frankfurt auto show on September 14-24.

It’s likely to have built-in car sharing capabilities too.

Part of Daimler, Smart is well known for bringing out a Fortwo electric drive some years ago.

The concept car will communicate its intentions to pedestrians and other motorists with a billboard-like display screen in its nose.

Daimler says the Smart concept will be the company’s first vehicle to reflect its new corporate strategy – Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric (CASE).

Earlier this year Smart announced it will stop selling gas-engine vehicles in the US after the 2017 model year, so it’s 2018 Fortwos will be electric only.

The Smart concept car will debut with other Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including the Project One hypercar, a new EQ electric concept, a hydrogen GLC F-Cell EQ Power and the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S Class coupe and convertible.
