Tata Motors set to launch first EV

tiago

The Tata Tiago EV is Tata Motors’ first electric vehicle for the Indian market, launching September.

It’s expected to borrow heavily from the Bolt BEV prototype, the electric version of the Bolt, according to reports.

Tata Motors, in collaboration with its subsidiary, the United Kingdom based Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC), has been working on battery-operated electric vehicles for some time, reports the Economic Times.

The carmaker has used the Tiago as a base for the new EV, as the hatchback’s relatively low-cost platform should help offset some of the costs of the battery and related components.

It’s also working on the electric version of the Nano and is testing a fully electric bus.

Whether the Tata Tiago EV or the other EVs will become available for the Australian and New Zealand markets is uncertain at this stage.
