Tesla battery truck exposed?
Tesla unveils its all-electric truck on October 26, but a photo purporting to show it has already been put on social media.
On reddit, a user posted a photo reportedly from “an undisclosed place in California where they test Tesla vehicles.”, electrek reports.
“The headlights and fenders match up, the nose looks like it doesn’t have an engine in it, and the angle of the windshield looks similar to the teaser photo.”
Electrek says the design looks “futuristic” – particularly compared to the other semi-tractor visible in the photo
Motors are likely be located between the axles, so there’s no need for a big engine bay which will makeTesla’s design more aerodynamic and perhaps also more roomy for the driver or extra space for batteries, electrek speculates.
“On the left side of the photo there’s a large silver object sitting on the ground. It looks like this might be one of those ‘aerodynamic shrouds’ intended to be placed on top of the tractor to reduce drag from the trailer.”
Tesla’s truck appears to have aerodynamic wheel covers too.
“Given all of these aerodynamic features, it’s clear that Tesla is aiming for long hauls, rather than the urban freight routes which Cummins is targeting with their prototype tractor.”
