British prime minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce on July 6 a scheme to allow internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to be ditched for EVs.

That’s according to a report from The Telegraph which says drivers could get up to 6000 pounds to swap their petrol or diesel car for an electric under the scrappage-style scheme.

It adds the move could help the struggling UK electric car industry and the automotive industry generally after it was hit by COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Johnson is likely to make the announcement among plans to restore the UK economy.

Germany and France have also announced EV incentives in economic stimulation packages.
