E-mobility likely in CCC report

“Strong signals” regarding EV uptake are expected in a draft plan to be released by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) on February 1.

“I think they will be going for it on EVs,” Drive Electric chair Mark Gilbert says, adding he believes “strong signals” around EV uptake will be in the draft.

He’s expecting more to come on e-mobility from the government too.

The commission is releasing its first package of advice on Auckland Anniversary Day and says it will be consulting with the public on it through to March 14.

The package will outline actions the CCC says the government must take to reach net-zero by 2050, and “ensure a transition to a low-emissions, climate resilient and thriving Aotearoa”

It will include the proposed first three emissions budgets and guidance on the first emissions reduction plan, advising the government on how the emissions budgets could be met, whether Aotearoa’s first Nationally Determined Contribution is compatible with contributing to the global efforts to limit warming above 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, and advice on what potential reductions in biogenic methane might be needed in the future.

The changes coming to stop running on fossil fuels will make the Rogernomics economic reforms of the 1980s “look like a trial period”, Stuff quotes CCC chairman Rod Carr as saying.
