Mercedes-AMG has revealed its electric GT SUV, a high-riding version of the GT 4-Door Coupé that shares its 800-volt AMG.EA platform.

The styling of the GT 4-Door wasn’t to everyone’s taste, but it arguably suits the taller SUV body better.

Three versions

The range starts with the GT 53, which uses two motors, one on each axle, with a two-speed transmission at the rear, for 400kW. The GT 55 and GT 63 switch to three axial flux motors, two of them driving the rear wheels, for 600kW and 860kW respectively. The GT 63 also produces 2000Nm. All are all-wheel drive.

Mercedes-AMG claims 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds for the GT 63, measured with a one-foot rollout, and 0-200km/h in 6.8 seconds. Top speed is 270km/h with the optional Driver’s Package. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard on the GT 63.

Battery and charging

The GT 55 and GT 63 use a 128kWh battery rated at up to 700km of WLTP range, and can charge at up to 710kW on DC. Mercedes-AMG claims a 10 to 80% charge in about 12 minutes and up to 454km of range added in 10 minutes. The GT 53 uses a 106kWh battery with up to 668km of range and 600kW charging. All figures are provisional.

Sound and cabin

The AMGFORCE Sport+ system uses the sound system, simulated gear shifts and seat vibrations to recreate the feel of a combustion car. In the GT 55 and GT 63 it plays V8 sounds, while the GT 53 simulates an AMG six-cylinder.

Inside, the SUV follows the sedan with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central touchscreen, with an optional 14-inch passenger display. It seats five, and the boot holds 607 litres, or 1740 litres with the rear seats folded. Rear-wheel steering is standard.

When it arrives

The GT SUV is built at Sindelfingen in Germany. European orders for the GT 53 open on 20 October, priced from €113,050, with the GT 55 and GT 63 following in spring 2027. Australian launch is planned for the second half of 2027, and New Zealand pricing and timing are yet to be confirmed.
