Canoo’s electric ute leaked

A Canoo electric ute (pickup truck in the US) featuring powered workbenches, tool storage, a modular expandable bed and more has been revealed on Reddit.

The report says Canoo debuted the electric ute during the Motor Press Guild’s Virtual Media Day (VMD) in partnership with Automobility LA and that the production version will open in the US for pre-orders in Q2 2022, with deliveries beginning in 2023.

“Our pickup truck is as strong as the toughest trucks out there and is designed to be exponentially more productive,” Canoo executive chairman Tony Aquila says.  

“This truck works for you. We made accessories for people who use trucks – on the job, weekends, adventure.”

It features a front cargo storage area that can hold tools or gear, also includes a fold-down worktable with electrical outlets. The workstation table is extendable.

Both sides of the vehicle house a flip-down table in two expandable depths with multi-functional power sources close by.

A hidden step on the vehicle’s side allows easy access to the truck bed. Underneath the step is a flexible storage area for items such as a first-aid kit, cooler for snacks and drinks, lockable laptop storage and more.

The truck bed is modular with Canoo’s space divider system designed to keep items separate and secure. The bed wall also incorporates modular wheel chocks to secure bikes and configurable tie downs for ladders, large equipment and other materials.

The ute can double as a powerplant with exportable power accessible on all sides of the vehicle. Power can last all day for tools and devices, which only has a 10% impact on the vehicle’s estimated 320km range.

It comes with dual or rear motor configurations, an 816kg payload capacity, plenty of torque, optional roof racks, accommodates various camper shells, steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire technology, a two hitch receiver and much more

Lights provide visibility in the cargo bed and include perimeter lighting.

Full specifications will be revealed closer to production.

Canoo’s first commercial offering, a multi-purpose delivery vehicle, is expected to launch in 2022 and achieve full production in 2023.
