Beam records 10m rides
E-scooter company Beam has achieved 10 million rides globally, helping prevent 3374 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Beam awarded $10,000 in prizes to its New Zealand riders for helping hit the milestone, including an all-expenses paid trip to Queenstown to the lucky 10 millionth rider Abbie C from Wellington. Ten riders also received a share of $5000 in Beam ride credit.
The 15 million kilometres travel is the equivalent of one e-scooter doing 19 trips to the moon and back, says the micromobility company which operates in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Malaysia and Japan.
New Zealand e-scooter numbers have doubled year-on-year for the past four years and this trend of rapid growth is expected to continue, it says.
Beam has operated in Auckland since early 2020 and launched in Wellington in March this year with plans to go into more New Zealand cities.
“Ten million rides is a major milestone which has saved a significant amount of car rides and CO2 emissions as a result,” Beam Australia and New Zealand general manager Tom Cooper says.
Beam New Zealand operations manager Frederick Conquer says its goal is to ensure New Zealanders have access to affordable, environmentally friendly and convenient personal transport options.
It will also run $1 rides on Saturday, May 29, in Auckland and Wellington.
