EVs electrify Auto Shanghai 2021

Electric vehicles are taking centre stage at China’s major automotive show from April 21-28, some announced at press days on April 19 and 20.

Several have already featured in EVs and Beyond such as the new Genesis EV, Toyota announcing its electrification intentions, and Volkswagen revealing its EV plans for China.

Ford and some Chinese brands have also released their EV ideas, with Auto Shanghai 2021 still operating under COVID-19 controls as China rebounds from the pandemic amid growing emphasis on e-mobility.

The Evos is a Ford SUV created in China, Ford also revealing new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) the Escape and showing its electric Mustang Mach-E.

Geely Auto presented its Xingyue L SUV, which has a degree of autonomous driving in parking itself and returning to pick up its occupants, while Honda showed its first EV for China and a PHEV.

Most brands intend releasing a range of EVs during the next few years, although some may be temporarily hampered by a micro chip shortage.
