ChargeNet NZ has introduced an “idle fee” for EVs using the ABB supplied chargers at Giltrap Audi in Auckland which are accessible on the ChargeNet network.

From August 9, ChargeNet applies a $1 fee per minute if EV drivers have not moved their vehicle from the site within five minutes or so of completing charging to ensure more people have a chance to charge.

The “idle fee” is likely to be rolled out nationwide but no timeframe has yet been provided by ChargeNet which says the fee is supported by most of its customers.

“Idle fees are new for ChargeNet, but we recognise that this fee will heavily encourage drivers to move on as quickly as possible, thus reducing queueing and creating a better experience for all drivers,” ChargeNet says.
