Polestar is World EV Day lead sustainability partner
Polestar is the lead sustainability partner for World EV Day on September 9, continuing support of the initiative after becoming a founding partner in 2020.
The Swedish premium electric performance car brand formed by Volvo Cars and Geely Holding joins ABB and Green.TV for World EV Day which will promote the role of EVs in the transition to net zero and decarbonisation and includes an EV emoji competition.
Polestar recognises the importance of businesses as a catalyst for sustainable change and has outlined an ambitious goal, the Polestar 0 project, to create a truly climate neutral car by 2030.
Committed to accelerate the shift to sustainable mobility, Polestar aims to inspire the rest of the car industry to move in the same direction.
“The recent UN IPCC report underlines more than ever that we must move faster in decarbonising the transport sector to stay within the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Agreement,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath says.
“As lead sustainability partner for World EV Day we want to help build this sense of urgency in the run-up to COP26.”
That’s the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on October 31-November 12.
“World EV Day is a catalyst for change, with a powerful message about sustainable mobility,” Green.TV Media and World EV Day founder Ade Thomas says.
“As such, I am pleased to be working once again with Polestar, a company that is at the forefront of driving change in the automotive sector.”
Earlier this year, Polestar introduced an industry-unique Product Sustainability Declaration, clearly displaying the CO2e impact and traced risk materials of its cars, on its website and in Polestar Spaces – tangible steps to enable consumers to make informed choices through improved transparency.
The inaugural World EV Day in 2020 reached about 1.9 billion people globally.
This year, Polestar is expanding into five new markets in the Asia Pacific region, including New Zealand.
It produces two electric performance cars. The Polestar 1 is a low-volume electric performance hybrid GT with a carbon fibre body and an electric-only range of 124km (WLTP).
The Polestar 2 electric performance fastback is the company’s first fully electric, high-volume car and includes three variants with a combination of long and standard range batteries as large as 78kWh, and dual and single motor powertrains with as much as 300kW of power and 660Nm torque.
The Polestar 3 electric performance SUV will join the portfolio, as well as the Precept – a design study vehicle released in 2020 that is slated for future production.
In April 2021, Polestar announced a goal of creating a climate-neutral car by 2030 without carbon offsetting through tree-planting.
