Ram all-electric by 2030
Pick-up truck brand Ram, the darling of Texas and good ole boys, will join muscle car maker Dodge to spearhead Stellantis’ electric vehicle push into the US market.
Stellantis, which includes Fiat Chrysler and French Peugeot and Citroen brands, says more than 40% of its US sales will be electrified vehicles by 2030, US magazine Automotive News reports.
By then, its 14 vehicle brands will market fully electrified vehicles globally.
Dodge, famed for its fire-breathing Challenger pony car, will debut a battery electric (BEV) muscle car in 2024, chief executive Tim Kuniskis saying Dodge will respond to the “sea of change in the marketplace” and embrace electrification.
“Every ounce of technology we integrate will be done to amplify the elements that define not just Dodge, but the muscle car itself.
“Through intelligent evolution, we expect to thrive and define the future of American muscle — to tear up the street, not the planet.”
Ram chief executive Mike Koval says the pick-up truck brand will roll out electrification across its line-up.
“Ram will offer a fully-electrified solution in the majority of our segments by 2025, and a full portfolio of electric solutions for all of our segments no later than 2030.”
He adds that’s happening “because it’s our responsibility to serve our loyal following of Ram owners who believe in our products and who are proud to wear our badge today, but also bringing a greater number of new customers to our brand by continuing to be bold and challenging tradition.”
Stellantis plans to invest more than 30 billion euros to electrify its vehicles, and will have four BEV platforms with ranges from 480 to 800km.
Five battery factories in Europe and North America will support the programme.
