Update: Porsche Taycan EV recall
Porsche AG has issued a recall for its first all-electric production vehicle, the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo variants from model year 2020 to model year 2021 for an issue that cannot be rectified in an over-the-air software update.
Porsche New Zealand marketing manager Stefanie McCullum says the Giltrap Group, which is the brands official importer, is awaiting campaign information from the factory as to which vehicles will be involved in New Zealand.
The Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer says it is reviewing and updating software for the power electronics and the engine control unit on more than 43,000 Vehicles after reports of sudden power losses.
“With the affected vehicles, there is a possibility that in certain instances a shutdown of the power train, resulting in loss of motive power, may be triggered incorrectly and sporadically. A software update will be installed in the workshop,” Porsche AG says.
It is understood the issue has already been remedied in the ongoing series.
“Owners of the affected vehicles can continue to use them and will be contacted directly by their respective Porsche partner,” Porsche AG says.
“A workshop appointment will be made as soon as possible, at no charge, and the software update will take about an hour.”
The recall follows reports of Taycan models switching to emergency mode in the US, investigated by its National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in May after receiving nine complaints.
Porsche AG says about 3400 of the Taycan models subjected to the recall are in Germany, but it doesn’t specify other countries which might be affected.
