Volta Trucks and DB Schenker have completed the first on-road test phase of the electric Volta Zero in Europe.

For the first time, a design verification prototype Volta Zero operated on roads and in real distribution environments in Paris.

Both companies confirmed a partnership and pre-order of nearly 1500 full-electric Volta Zero medium-duty electrified trucks in Europe last year.

The 16-tonne Volta Zero will be used in DB Schenker’s European terminals to transport goods from distribution hubs to city centres and urban areas.

Volta Trucks and DB Schenker will explore potential uses of the technology to expand the offering, with the rollout starting at 10 locations in five countries.

“It was great to see the result live on the streets of Paris,” says DB Schenker Europe land transport executive vice president Cyrille Bonjean, who looks forward to adding the first pilot vehicles to the fleet in Europe at the beginning of 2023.

Volta Trucks chief executive Essa Al-Saleh adds that seeing Volta Zero vehicles operating on Paris streets is a great forerunner to delivering significant volumes of customer trucks in the near future.

The Volta Zero has about 150-200km range and is designed for urban logistics, reducing the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centres.
