Volta Zero e-truck approved for Europe
Volta Trucks has gained “European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval” (ECWVTA) for its 16-tonne electric Volta Zero urban delivery truck.
The certification allows Volta Trucks to produce and sell the all-electric Volta Zero in volume, with series production expected to start at the company’s contract manufacturing facility in Steyr, Austria early in Q2 this year.
The ECWVTA is the process used to ensure that vehicles meet the stringent and relevant environmental, safety and security standards.
The Volta Zero’s certification comes as the second-generation ‘Production Verification’ prototypes are soon to be delivered to customers across Europe as part of a pilot fleet of vehicles. These vehicles will be loaned to customers, allowing fleet operators to fully understand how the electric medium duty truck will integrate into their operations.
The vehicle underwent multiple systems and individual component testing on areas such as braking, steering, lighting and glazing, along with the vehicle safety systems.
Volta Trucks chief executive Essa Al-Saleh says gaining the ECWVTA is “a huge milestone”.
The Volta Zero is designed for urban logistics, reducing the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centres, and has 150-200km range while expected to eliminate an estimated 1.9 million tonnes of CO2 by 2026.
