Volta Zero at ACT Expo for US launch

Volta-Zero-US-launch

The electric Volta Zero truck will be publicly displayed for the first time in the US at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, May 1-4, near Los Angeles.

US customers will initiate pilot fleet trials of the Volta Zero Class 6 and Class 7 in late 2023 – available with an ambient or refrigerated cargo box – followed by US-specification production vehicles expected in 2024.

The US-based Driving Experience Program for fleet operators aims to evaluate a pilot fleet of Volta Zeros in real distribution environments to understand how the electric delivery trucks will integrate into their operations. A similar program is launching across six European countries.

The 16-ton Class 6 and Class 7 Volta Zero will be followed in the US by Class 5 and Class 6 trucks, equivalent to the European 7.5- and 12-ton vehicles, in 2026.

Volta Trucks is also developing its US market launch plans, including a ‘Truck as a Service’ subscription offer and vehicle charging.

The ACT Expo in Anaheim, California, is the world’s largest event dedicated to alternative-fuel commercial vehicles for vehicle manufacturers and commercial transport providers, says Volta Trucks.

Class 6 and Class 7 Volta Zeros will offer a modular battery configuration to deliver 152-200km range, which Volta Trucks says is more than enough for downtown distribution routes.

“I’m delighted to be able to show the all-electric Volta Zero in the important US market, at ACT Expo in California,” says Volta Trucks chief executive Essa Al-Saleh.

“We’re building on the key learnings from our European launch, where we’ve developed at speed and scale, with deep understanding of our customers’ needs, to accelerate the transition to electric commercial vehicles and help decarbonise city centres.

“The US faces the same safety and sustainability issues we are addressing in Europe and is a significant market opportunity for us.”
