The General Motors (GM) design team has revealed an early concept rendering of a small battery electric Chevrolet ute (aka “pickup” in the US).

GM plans to launch 30 new EVs globally by 2025, and electrify its entire light-duty vehicle line-up by 2035, says GM Authority, adding it has previously reported on likely GM battery-powered GM models including the pickup.

A ute concept design has been released on social media by the GM Design Instagram team (@generalmotorsdesign).

“The concept image includes a front three-quarters and rear three-quarters view of an unnamed Chevy pickup,” GM Authority explains.

“The styling, total lack of a tail pipe, and EV hashtag all point towards an all-electric powertrain as the source of motivation. The concept was created by Chevrolet Performance Exterior designer Darby Barber.

“Up front, we find ultra-thin lighting elements that punctuate the front fascia along the edges of the hood line and lower in the bumper, following the Bow Tie brand’s latest lighting design trend. Similar thin signatures can be seen on models like the Chevy Silverado EV, Chevy Blazer EV, and Chevy Equinox EV, all three of which also incorporate a two-tiered fascia layout with a prominent lower “grille” section.

“High on the nose of this small EV Chevy pickup is a black Chevy badge, while the Chevrolet script is indented in the lower bumper protrusion.”

GM Authority says oversized wheels with an undetermined design are seen, and that the rockers appear to have a carbon fibre finish, while the sideview mirrors offer a low profile for enhanced aerodynamics. The roof is finished and black, creating a two-tone effect.

More thin lighting signatures are seen spread across the top of the tailgate and lower in the rear fascia, wrapping around into the rear fenders, with the Chevrolet script set in the tailgate, says GM Authority.
