Tesla Roadster’s rocket thrust option astounds
The new Tesla Roadster’s optional SpaceX Package would launch it from zero to 96.56km/h (60mph) in 1.1 seconds, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk confirms.
The information is teased in the Petersen Auto Museum’s next-generation Tesla Roadster exhibit, saying when fitted with cold gas thrusters the next-generation Roadster would be able to reach that speed in such a time, confirmed on Twitter by Musk.
He adds: “It will be safe, but very intense. Probably not wise for those with a medical condition – same as a hardcore roller coaster.”
Teslarati says that’s sound advice “considering that the vehicle would likely put G forces comparable to a literal rocket launch when it accelerates at full power”.
It adds that confirmation of the new Roadster’s acceleration figures has caused a lot of excitement among the EV community.
Musk says the upcoming all-electric halo car, due out in 2022, will look different than its prototype but he did not provide any details about the Roadster’s final design, Teslarati says.
