Tesla will make its Supercharger network open to other EVs later this year, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk says in a tweet.

Asked whether that means all countries or specific ones, Musk responds: “Over time, all countries.”

But Tesla Owners Club of New Zealand founder and president John Fitness wants to clarify that and where New Zealand stands in the queue in his monthly call to Tesla shortly.

“It could be a few years away yet,” Fitness cautions.

Overseas reports suggest Norway will have its Tesla Superchargers open to other EVs and publicly available in the third quarter of 2022.

That indicates New Zealand may get similar Supercharger availability to all from 2023 at the earliest.

  1. Fantastic move by Tesla to open Superchargers to EVs that can use this charging capacity. An Ioniq 5 with 72.6kw battery pack will be make use of the rapid charge rate they are built for. They won’t then clutter up slower rate chargers so this is a win win.
