Welcome to the November 2020 EVs and Beyond magazine
We’ve got it all in this issue – from Hayden Paddon’s world-first electric rally car to the launch of New Zealand’s first electric aircraft.
Will EV and e-mobility get much help from the new government?
It’s the $64 question – and EV dealers and others don’t expect any action this side of Christmas from the Labour government (which has an agreement with the Green Party that includes progress on e-mobility and renewable energy).
Let’s face it – there hasn’t been much government support for EVs for a while now.
Perhaps next year?
Meanwhile, people involved in e-mobility are just getting on with it.
And many are receiving recognition for their efforts – see award winners inside.
We also recognise others, like Henry Schmidt, one of the EV dealership pioneers, who has recently moved his EV business to new premises.
He usually has an opinion on what can be done better, and he’s joined by other EV dealers around the country having their say on the current state of play.
Yes, EV numbers are not where they were earlier predicted to be – check out our stats pages for more.
ChargeNet NZ has come a long way in five years – we talk to Steve West.
We have updated information about our upcoming EVs and Beyond conference with an associated EV Expo on Waiheke Island.
The island is also the place where a new fleet of electric buses has been launched – the “first Auckland suburb” to do so – and a major boost for the Electric Island Waiheke movement.
If you’re struggling to get an e-bike for Christmas you can find out why. Global demand during the COVID-19 crisis means bikes and parts are hard to get – so how long will you have to wait?
Speaking of global, Dutch EV traveller Wiebe Wakker has put New Zealand well and truly on the world EV stage with an exhibition in Volkswagen’s museum in Germany.
After a year of disruption, EVolocity is back with students testing their EV projects on the tarmac at the RNZAF’s Auckland base.
Plus we have EV reviews and tables, our regular Intelligent Transport Systems NZ updates and a whole lot more for your reading pleasure.
