Solar and EVs at Covi Supershow

Covi-Supershow

At least one EV and a stack of solar are expected at the Covi Motorhome, Caravan and Outdoor Supershow at the Auckland Showgrounds in Greenlane on March 17-19.

The EV is expected to come from the RV Super Centre, while most of the show vehicles will have some form of solar power, show organisers say.

The show runs from 9am to 5pm daily.

Lightship-caravan

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced of an electric self-propelled caravan or campervan unveiled by US electric recreational vehicle (RV) firm Lightship.

The Lightship L1 is an aerodynamic, battery-powered, and self-propelled travel trailer (or caravan) that delivers near-zero efficiency loss for the vehicle towing it, The Driven.io reports.

It adds former Tesla employees and Lightship co-founders Ben Parker and Toby Kraus started Lightship in 2020.

The Lightship L1 is aerodynamically designed for longer range and greater efficiency, Lightship adding that a 480km range EV tow car will retain its range while towing the caravan.

An electric powertrain with 80kWh battery capacity allows the trailer to propel itself and achieve near-zero range or efficiency loss for the towing vehicle, the report says.

The caravan has a 3kW rooftop solar power system as well and can sleep four to six people.

Production is expected late 20224 with pre-orders already open for a $US500 (NZ$802.51) deposit.
